Entrepreneurship is a demanding journey that requires commitment, resilience and courage. However, it is also a journey that can bring great rewards and satisfaction. Unfortunately, achieving these goals comes with a high risk of failure and burnout. In order to limit both of these- a founder must learn how to scale their business without their presence being required in the office. Delegate the right tasks In order to scale your business it is essential that you avoid ‘wearing all the hats’ in the organisation. Successful founders are extremely self-aware about their strengths and weaknesses and surround themselves with individuals that possess complimentary skill sets. It is very important that as a founder you don’t try and do everything yourself once the business reaches a certain level. As a founder your responsibility should be focusing on the hiring of highly skilled staff, developing the company strategy and getting the best out of your team. Your job as the founder is too not pay attention to the small details but rather focus on the big picture and ensure you hire individuals that you trust to execute the strategy on a day to day basis. Hire individuals that fit into your vision In order to hire the right individuals and make your daily presence unnecessary you must have a clear vision about the values of your company and the type of individual that you feel will help scale your business. As a founder it is your responsibility to then coach these employees to become self-sufficient and possess the ability to solve big problems without your input. Right frame of mind Surrounding yourself with the right team will ensure that you are always in the right frame of mind. Being refreshed and focused at work will ensure you are always making the best decisions for your business. Arjun Sondhi is Brand & Digital Director for BMC Global Services.
